Hi, I am Yones Bana from CG Record Team, and this is a making of from my last personal work, Fall travel.

In this tutorial I using 3dsMax and vray, also Photoshop for postproduction steps. First of all adjust the unit setup. I use centimeters in this scene.
I use these models in scene.

For environment ground I use Paint Deformation tools in edit poly.
Note that we need steep in front of the beach.
Add a turbosmooth modifier to achieve smooth result.
Vegetationare created by Forest plugin. Because we want to show the feeling of autumn I use some orange trees models from evermotion.
Create a spline for limit the trees area in top viewport.
Use Forest for scattering the trees, you must add the trees in Geometry rollout.
Toadd variety to trees use transform rollout in forest parameters.
For under the trees I scatter some bushes.
Repeat the same technique for scatter them.
For the rest of the scene I create a new spline.
In this case I use library of the forest for stones.
Finally add some trees in stone areas.
For the main GI lighting I use DOME and put Vray HDRI map on it.
I use a nice HDRI from Peter Guthrie.
To strengthen the intensity of sunlight I use a vraysun exactly in position of sun in HDRI.
For landscape lights I use photometric lights.
For interior lights I use vraylight sphere.
For the wooden houses I use two different materials.
Dark wood
For bright wood I blend the dark one with bright one with a mask.
With the uvwmap modifier correct the mask map on your model.
Palce a VRayPhysicalCamera in your scene with these setting.
And finally this is Render setup.
This is Raw render.
And these are render elements.
Now its time to finalize the image in photoshop!
With some adjustment like levels, curves, color balance, … and use elements with correct blending mode achive to better result.
For water surface I use Flood plugin. You can download thefree demo at this link:

After install the plugin, from filter menue select Flaming pear and Flood.
In this plugin you can control characteristic of water such as horizon, waviness, blur and etc.
